The Fabulously Rich: Honouring the Legacy of The Tragically Hip

Long before The Fabulously Rich formed, fate brought our frontman, Dennis Ellsworth, into an extraordinary collaboration with Gord Downie. Together, they crafted a musical rendition of Gord’s poignant poem Coke Machine Glow, featured on Dennis’s Hazy Sunshine album, recorded at The Tragically Hip’s iconic Bathhouse Studio. That collaboration sparked a lasting friendship—leading to backstage invitations, road hangouts, and Gord’s signature spontaneous check-ins. That personal connection continues to fuel every performance we give.

Our journey as The Fabulously Rich began in 2016 with what was meant to be a one-time fundraiser in Charlottetown after Gord’s illness made headlines. But something special happened that night. People wanted more, and venues started calling. It was clear The Hip’s music still resonated deeply.

What started as a one-off event has grown into a shared purpose: keeping The Hip’s music and the experience of their shows alive. We’ve all been shaped by their songs in different ways. From their vivid storytelling rooted in Canadian history to those unmistakable guitar riffs, The Hip captured the country’s spirit like no one else. Their dedication to addressing important issues, especially raising awareness of Indigenous rights, set them apart. At The Fabulously Rich, we’re committed to playing their music with the same energy and authenticity that made their performances unforgettable.

We’ve been incredibly fortunate to perform for audiences big and small, earning the respect of fans and building a dedicated following of our own. We look forward to keeping this going for as long as we can—and hope to see you at a show!

Rock on,

-TFR-
